Carolina Jews for Justice Seeks Full-Time Community Organizer

Carolina Jews for Justice (www.carolinajewsforjustice.org) is a statewide progressive Jewish  advocacy organization in North Carolina, the only such social justice organization in the southeastern United States. Now in our fifth year, our organization is well-positioned to deepen and expand our statewide network.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate full-time community organizer to support  Carolina Jews for Justice to be a powerful force for social justice in North Carolina. The organizer will engage and grow our volunteer base, train local chapters in organizing, build principled relationships with allies and policymakers, help to develop and execute strategy for campaigns, and play a critical role in expanding a Jewish voice for improving the lives of all North Carolinians. The organizer will work closely with a second existing organizer on staff.

The role will also include administrative support of CJJ operations and communications, including managing a database, supporting meeting and event planning, some fundraising, and digital organizing.This position will involve regular travel to meet with chapters around the state and engage our members to be leaders in the organization.

Organizer Responsibilities:

  • Strengthen and grow our membership base across the state through relationship building, coordinating campaign teams, supporting governance of local chapters, connecting volunteers to opportunities, and training volunteers to become leaders;

  • Work with CJJ board leadership and local steering committees to develop campaigns and programs, set goals, organize political education, and support members to lead locally and at the state level.

  • Serve as a liaison with our existing campaign partners, as well as explore new partnerships across the state for powerful campaigns;

  • Support ongoing CJJ advocacy in coordination with CJJ volunteers and leadership through mobilizing members for events, operating the member database,  attending coalition meetings on behalf of CJJ, supporting CJJ communications, etc.

  • Liaison with similar Jewish social justice organizations around the country and collaborate on national efforts on behalf of CJJ;

  • Lead digital communications strategy in partnership with CJJ volunteers and other staff (includes newsletters, event promotion, website, social media, and fundraising campaigns);

  • Help with administrative support for CJJ, including database entry, assisting with logistics for events

Desired Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission and principles of CJJ; dedication to social, racial and economic justice

  • Knowledge and familiarity with a Jewish inspiration for social justice

  • Two or more years experience in community organizing, including demonstrated skill in building a base, developing leaders and inspiring others to take action; building and implementing organizing campaigns; four years experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with online database platforms for organizing both fundraising and membership/activity tracking

  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment within the context of an overall plan and structure

  • Ability to organize and/or teach political education training on issues of racial, economic and social justice related to issue focus

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking

  • Good organizational and administrative skills, including basic computer skills and use of social media

  • Willingness to travel and work some evenings and occasional weekends

  • Have a car and valid driver’s license

Salary/Location: $40,000 plus benefits (benefits to be determined in consultation with staff). Location in Raleigh/Durham area.
